A few months ago, actually, more like half a year ago, I did a biographical sketchman Grossman for Suite101. The text of that article canbe found here:

We kissed,
Cried,
And sang.
We rushed with bayonets.
And in the middle of the charge,
The girl in the rag-tag overcoat,
Fell, and clutched the snow.

Mama!
Mama!
I reached our objective!
Yet, along the banks of the Volga, on the steppe,
The girl in the rag-tag overcoat,
Fell, and clutched the snow.

In Stalingrad

Here, even the distant ash remains so hot,
That it will burn you,
Take in a breath,
Recall,
Perhaps touch it.
Yet you, do not cry while walking upon it,
And do not startle before the ashes to come.
1952
